Where My Faith and
Real Life Meet…
It is not uncommon to feel conflicted in our minds and
hearts when our human inclinations overshadow our spiritual values.
Conflicted: To want two things at the same time.
Our human nature can produce a strong propensity for selfishness and
immediate gratification which can lead to all kinds of problems. Before you know it, we feel pulled off-course by our worldly woes and sit sadly wondering why we don't feel close to God anymore.
And then there’s the other nature I now have in Christ – the one that strives (and
often fails) to have a pure, unselfish and patient heart with a more eternal point-of-view (Luke 18:29-30).
It’s like living in a parallel universe.
On the one hand, we have our “spiritual” life that is often
pretty-much-lived on the inside, and occasionally shows up in our day-to-day life. Even the joy and forgiveness we have as Christians is often kept to ourselves -- separate and personal.
And then there’s our real
life – you know, the place that we call reality where we live, work, suffer,
sometimes feel happy and often feel completely insecure. It is the place where
we think that most of our pain comes from, so it gets a lot more of our
attention. It seems like we are always trying to fix something in ourselves. (Romans 7:21-25)
But which life is really real?
It’s a matter of perspective. It can make a huge difference when
you consciously and mindfully choose which one is really real.
Are you a
Spiritual Being having a human experience? (John 15:18-19)
or…
Are you a
Human Being having a spiritual experience?
As Christ-followers we have ETERNAL LIFE.
So that makes us
spiritual beings. We are human for, what ... the blink of an eye? A nanosecond? Eternity
is a little longer and lot stronger than that!
In the beautiful words of recording artist Steven
Curtis-Chapman:
"We
were made to run through fields of forever
…So let us remember, that this life we're living
Is just the beginning... of the Beginning …
Of this glorious unfolding!"*
…So let us remember, that this life we're living
Is just the beginning... of the Beginning …
Of this glorious unfolding!"*
Shift your focus and change your life.
I have a song for everything: * "Glorious Unfolding" by Steven Curtis Chapman ;
