Defying Gravity
I recently saw a television show about a Russian scientist who claimed that he had developed a reactor that created an invisible anti-gravity field. This had never been done before and other scientists around the world set out to duplicate and validate his findings. But, alas, no one else could do it, so the Russian scientist fell into disrepute. But the search for such a finding perseveres because if they could discover how to create anti-gravity -- it would change everything.
Kingdom living for Jesus-followers is a lot like an anti-gravity existence.
The spiritual realm is a parallel universe where our spirits are tethered to the Spirit of God (Luke 17:21). The closer we get to intimately knowing our Heavenly Father -- and most especially, the more we are able to really, really believe that He knows and cares for us, the more we can defy the gravitational pull of this world. And when you ink that in, it does indeed change everything.
Falling Upward.
When we live from an eternal point of view (Colossians 3:2), loss and disappointment are so much easier to bear. And from that sky-high perspective, more-and-more of our experience will be like falling upward. Then, the with-God life will begin to loom larger within our awareness than our earthly cares and woes.
The events of this life will become like sub-titles instead of glaring headlines that ruthlessly drive and define us.
Here's how it plays out...
Most of the things we strive for in this world are only a means to an end -- the end being that we feel SEEN, authentically KNOWN, and LOVED. And the interesting thing about that is that even those people who have actually achieved these things often sabotage their happy result because at some level, they just don't trust it.
Very few of us have been loved properly.
When we look to other people to fill this need in us, we find it to be conditional and therefore, ultimately disappointing. Only when we fall upward into the cross and grace can we know what it is like to be truly seen, known, and loved -- in spite of who we are -- and not because of anything we have done to earn or deserve it. It has to be a gift (Ephesians 2:8).
Don't let gravity get you down.
We are meant to enjoy our lives here from the Kingdom perspective of looking beyond, and living above, our circumstances -- tilting our awareness toward our forever-home where our rewards will be the things we did of eternal value, and not how successful we were at accumulating accolades and possessions. Love God, and love each other -- and that's about it! (Mark 12:30-31) And the older you get, the more you will know this to be oh-so-true.
Upward gravity is the only pull that will ultimately satisfy, comfort, and empower you.
God SEES you:
"Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (Luke 12:6-7)God KNOWS you and tells you that you are His child:
"Now because you are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts to cry out, "Abba! Father! [Daddy]" (Galatians 4:6)
You can trust God's LOVE for you (because it's not about you, it's about Him!):
"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." (1John 4:10)
I have a song for everything.

...and as Children of God, we only need to look to God for our unconditional love. Oh how I wish I could remember that at times when I look to others for acceptance and love.
